Even simple products have the possibility of a defect. These issues can cause harm to their consumers resulting in serious injuries. Often times, the manufacturers of these products know of the danger but fail to recall a product or change its design because they do not want to spend the money required to fix the problem. When a person is hurt because of a defective product a company places in the market, they must be held accountable.
Our lawyers have handled product liability cases of all types, including automotive, industrial, pharmaceutical, medical, and others. It was Garry Lewis’s case that forced Ford Motor Company to correct a dangerous defective in the trucks that caused the truck to fall into reverse and killed and seriously injure many people. Garry’s client was the 126th person to die from the defect and Ford had won nearly every case brought against it. However, Garry hired the right experts and discovered and exposed the true cause of the defect – of which Ford was well-aware but unwilling to correct the problem because Ford was, up until that time, very successful in defending the lawsuits. After opening arguments, the case was settled for a confidential amount. However, it was the largest ever settlement by Ford at the time.
Another notable case was against Coca-Cola bottling company. As a result of Garry’s work, all carbonated beverage bottles now have slits in the threads. This design corrected the long-existing problem of over-pressurization in the bottles which resulted in many instances where consumers were blinded when the cap blew off. Again, Garry’s hard work revealed that Coca-cola knew of the problem but, up until then, had simply refused to make the design change because they did not want to pay the designs patent holder.
More recent cases include large recoveries against a major lawnmower manufacturer and car manufacturer, shedding light on dangerous defects in their products to help prevent future deaths and injuries from occurring in the future.
